Partners implementing the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRING) Programme recently convened in Plateau State for a Collaborative Co-Creation Workshop, marking the transition from Year 2 to Year 3 of the programme.
Supported by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the SPRING Programme continues to strengthen peace, resilience, and sustainable development in communities affected by conflict and insecurity across Nigeria.
The workshop brought together civil society organisations and key government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to reflect on lessons learned during the second year of implementation, strengthen coordination among partners, and collaboratively design strategies for scaling interventions that have demonstrated measurable impact.
Year 2 of the SPRING Programme focused on piloting innovative approaches to addressing the drivers of conflict and building community resilience. As the programme enters Year 3, emphasis is shifting toward expanding successful interventions to reach more communities while strengthening institutional collaboration and local ownership.
During Year 2, the Youth, Adolescent, Reflection and Action Centre (YARAC) implemented activities under Workstream 3: Agriculture, Pastoralism and Natural Resource Management. Through this work, YARAC promoted the adoption of climate-smart agricultural and pastoral practices while creating platforms for dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence between farming and pastoralist communities.
Key interventions included strengthening sustainable forage production, supporting natural resource management, building the capacity of farmers and herders, and promoting shared livelihood opportunities that reduce tensions and foster long-term peace.
The Collaborative Co-Creation Workshop provided partners with an opportunity to build on these achievements by jointly identifying practical approaches for scaling evidence-based solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and enhance community peacebuilding efforts.
As implementation moves into Year 3, YARAC remains committed to working alongside government institutions, development partners, and local communities to expand proven models that support sustainable agriculture, responsible natural resource management, and inclusive peacebuilding across Plateau State and beyond.
The SPRING Programme continues to demonstrate the value of collaboration in addressing complex development and peacebuilding challenges, ensuring that interventions are locally driven, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of affected communities.
